Salty Coffee

He met her at a party, she was so outstanding, guys were chasing after her.
He, by contrast, was so normal, nobody paid attention to him.
At the end of the party, he invited her to have coffee with him.
She was surprised, but as he was polite, she agreed.

They sat in a nice coffee shop, he was too nervous to say anything.
She felt uncomfortable and thought : "please, let me go back home".

Suddenly he told the waiter: "Would you please give me some salt. I'd like to put it in my coffee." Everybody stared at him. How strange!
His face turned red, but still, he put the salt in his coffee and drank it.
She asked him curiously: "Why do you put salt in your coffee?"

He replied: "When I was a little boy, I lived near the sea. I liked playing in the sea as I could feel the taste of the salty sea, just like the taste of salty coffee. Now every time I drink salty coffee, I always think of my childhood, of my hometown. I miss my hometown so much. I miss my parents who still lived there." Tears filled his eyes as he was saying this.

She was deeply touched. What he had said was his true feeling, coming from the bottom of his heart. A man who can speak of his homesickness, must be a man who cares about home, has a sense of responsibility..

Suddenly, she started to speak about her far away hometown, her childhood and of her family. They had a really nice talk, which is also a beautiful beginning of their story.
They continued to date each other. Slowly, she found out that he was actually a man who meet all her requirements: he had tolerance, was kind hearted, warm, responsible...in summary, he was such a good person and she almost overlooked him!

Thanks to his salty coffee!
The story was just like every beautiful love story: the princess married the prince, then they lived happily together.. and, every time she made coffee for him, she put some salt in the coffee, as she knew that's the way he liked it.

40 years later, he passed away, leaving her a letter which said:
"My dearest wife, please forgive me, forgive me as I have started our life with a lie. This was the only lie I have told you----the salty coffee. Remember the first time we dated? I was so nervous at that time. Actually, I really wanted some sugar, but I mistakenly said salt. It was hard for me to change so I just went on ahead with it. I never thought that could be the start of our communication! I tried afterwards to tell you the truth many times in my life.. but I was too scared to do that, as I have promised not to lie to you about anything. Now I'm dying, and I am afraid of nothing. I will tell you the truth: I don't like the salty coffee, what a strange bad taste. But I have had the salty coffee for my whole life

Since I know you, I have never feel sorry for anything I have done for you. Having you with me is the biggest happiness for me. If I have the chance to live for a second time, I still want you and have you for my whole life, even though I have to drink salty coffee again."

Her tears made the letter totally wet. Someday, someone asked her: what's the taste of salty coffee? It's sweet. She replied.

Sometimes, you feel like you know your partner more than anyone else..but only to realize afterwards that the person is not what you have described. It's just like the story of the salty coffee. Everyone has a hidden side which sometimes they hide for your own good.

Sometimes, salty coffee does taste better than sweet coffee..
